About het vouwen van stemmen
the folding of voices Is a personal and dynamic dance theater performance that explores the theme of transgenerational trauma through the cobination of dance, theatre, visual art, music and text. the folding of voices Is an intimate and poetic duet following two bodies returning to an abandoned swimming pool. The pool, once a symbol of freedom and lightness, transforms into a magical yet sometimes oppressive world where dreams, fears, and generations of stories
converge. The water fills with images of boats, nightmares, and surreal visions, but also moments of warmth, connection, and hope.

The performance balances on the edge of imagination and reality: are these dreamlike images a
form of escape, or do the figures keep falling deeper into layers of memories? As they move
through this world, they seek to understand the grief and burdens passed down through
generations. Together, they ask universal questions: Which emotions truly belong to us, and which stem from stories we unknowingly carry? How do we recognize what we can let go of and what is an inseparable part of who we are?

The performance reveals the struggle between the desire to break free from the past and the
realization that this past is an inseparable part of who we are. It is a search for harmony, an
attempt to accept and transform the weight we carry. the folding of voices is a visually and
emotionally powerful journey inward: a story of confrontation, transformation, and finding
balance amidst all that we carry with us.

Through the layering of movement performed by Ischa Statie and Emma Versluys, poetry written by Emma Hanekroot, visual art, created by Emma Versluys and music created by Merit Vessies, the audience is welcomed in a surreal world, that reflects our realities in a unique way.

Review of VIERXVIER by Theaterkrant

'In een dynamisch spel tussen licht, beeldprojectie, geluid en beweging reflecteren dansers Emma Versluys en Ischa Statie op intergenerationeel trauma. Met hen duiken we in de baarmoeder, terwijl een soundscape van fluisterende stemmen de beladenheid van gestapelde indrukken en emoties symboliseert. Zo nu en dan zijn daar ook woorden en zinnen in te ontwaren. Heel bijzonder is hoe het duet licht, beeld en beweging evenredig aan elkaar samenbrengt. De projector is ook een bewegend spotlicht en de geprojecteerde tekeningen krijgen een driedimensionale werking. Het uitgekiende, acrobatische bewegingsidioom bewaakt de dynamiek en zo krijgt het complexe onderwerp alle ruimte.'
